HCG diet: maintenance:
After the 30 to 60 days of the hcg diet, the next phase is maintenance. During this phase, the body is slowly going to transition from the hcg weight loss diet to a pattern of maintaining the lost fat off of the body.
During this 3 week time period, the body is more prone to regain part of that weight if care is not taken, since the metabolic state is not completely stable yet. During this phase of the hcg weight loss protocol, the amount of food consumed is no longer limited to 500 calories. It is increased to close to 1000-1500, depending upon the person’s basal metabolic state.
Proteins and vegetables still comprise the majority of the intake, but do not need to be as lean. Some fat is incorporated into the diet, both for cooking as well as the type of meat used. Ground meat is now allowed, as are all types of fish. Olive oil use is encouraged in salads, if used in moderation. The important thing to still avoid is any carbohydrate. During these 3 weeks, no carbohydrate other than the fruits previously consumed during the hcg diet can be eaten. Avoidance of carbohydrates is crucial.
Daily weighing in the morning is very important, to gage any acute weight gain that may have occurred during the last day. If a weight gain of more than 2 pounds is recorded from the time of the last day of the hcg diet, then for the remainder of the day all meals are skipped until dinner, during which a large steak and an apple are recommended. This helps prevent weight gain from getting out of control, and acts to gage what level of intake is appropriate.
