Surgical Method for Avelar Abdominoplasty:
Avelar Abdominoplasty is less invasive than traditional abdominoplasty, and can therefore be done under local (or tumescent) anesthesia. The risks and complications of general anesthesia are avoided, thereby making the procedure safer.
First, liposuction is performed to remove excess fat, leaving behind the needed matrix of connective tissue and blood vessels. Then, a long incision is made in the bikini line just above the pubic area, and the excess skin is removed, leaving behind the underlying tissue intact. A second incision is usually made around the belly button. If necessary, the fascia overlying the muscle is sutured in order to tighten loose or stretched out muscles. This step creates a tighter abdominal wall, and is performed if there is significant diastasis, or separation of the rectus muscle. The skin is subsequently stretched down and sutured, thereby tightening the abdomen. Usually, drains are inserted to eliminate fluid and blood buildup. The drains are removed in a few days, once the excess fluid is removed from the body. An effort is made to hide the scars in the bikini area.
The ideal candidate for tummy tuck meets most of the following criteria:
- Is close to her ideal body weight.
- Wants to remove specific areas of loose skin or fat that have been resistant to dieting and exercise.
- Has stable weight.
- Has good skin tone.
- Is emotionally stable.
- Understands the risks of abdominoplasty surgery and scarring.
- Has realistic expectations of significant improvement, but realizes that perfection cannot be achieved.
